The Nutcracker as a Graphic Novel

The Nutcracker and Mouse King is reborn yet again, this time as a children's graphic novel. Artist Natalie Andrewson's drawings are fun, colourful, and full of expression. She captures the sense of child-like wonder that has made this tale so famous, and for that, I love it! It has made me fall in love with this story for, to be honest, the first time! I never was aware of how magical this story was before. I saw the ballet, and it was nice, but it felt distant, a performance for the refined senses. The picture books and stories descend every Christmas as sure as the snow, but I never thought more of it, and here I am, always looking for those wondrous children's books! The graphic novel was like, "Hey! You! Here's the heart of this story. Here's why it has lived for hundreds of years in our imagination!" Nothing is so pure like the wonder of a child.
